Roadworthy Certificate Brisbane
Queensland RWC inspections at all 4 Brisbane locations
About This Service
A roadworthy certificate (RWC) is required in Queensland when transferring vehicle ownership or re-registering an unregistered vehicle. Fixacar is an authorised inspection station at all four Brisbane locations. Our licensed vehicle inspectors carry out thorough safety checks and issue certificates on the same day in most cases.
In Queensland, a roadworthy certificate confirms that a vehicle meets minimum safety standards at the time of inspection. It is not a guarantee of the vehicle's overall mechanical condition, but it does confirm that the safety-critical systems are in acceptable working order. Selling a vehicle without a valid RWC can expose you to legal liability.
When do you need a roadworthy certificate?
- You are selling your vehicle
- You are buying a used vehicle (the seller is required to provide one)
- Your vehicle's registration has lapsed and you need to re-register it
- Your vehicle has been written off and rebuilt
- You have received a defect notice from Queensland Police

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a roadworthy inspection take?
Most inspections take between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours depending on the vehicle. We recommend booking in advance to secure a time.
What happens if my car fails the roadworthy?
We provide a written report listing every item that needs to be rectified. You can have the repairs done at Fixacar or elsewhere. Once repairs are complete, we carry out a re-inspection at a reduced fee.
How long is a roadworthy certificate valid for?
In Queensland, a roadworthy certificate is valid for 2 months or 2,000 km from the date of issue, whichever comes first.
Can I drive my car to the inspection if it is unregistered?
You will need to arrange a permit to drive an unregistered vehicle on public roads. Contact the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads for details.
Do I need a roadworthy to sell a car privately in Queensland?
Yes. In Queensland, the seller is required to provide a current roadworthy certificate when selling a registered vehicle privately. Selling without one can result in fines and legal liability.
