Slipping, juddering or heavy clutch pedal - we fix it

Clutch Repairs - Fixacar Brisbane

About This Service

The clutch is one of the most used components in a manual transmission vehicle. Every gear change puts wear on the clutch disc, pressure plate and release bearing. When the clutch starts slipping, juddering or becomes difficult to engage, it is time for an inspection. Fixacar diagnoses and replaces clutch systems across all four Brisbane locations.

A worn clutch does not just make driving unpleasant - it can leave you stranded if it fails completely. Clutch wear is gradual, which means many drivers do not notice how much performance has declined until the clutch slips badly under load. Catching clutch wear early can sometimes allow for adjustment rather than full replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a clutch last?

Clutch life varies enormously depending on driving style and conditions. City driving with frequent stop-start traffic wears a clutch much faster than highway driving. A well-driven clutch can last 150,000 km or more. An aggressive or inexperienced driver may wear one out in 60,000 km.

Can a slipping clutch be adjusted rather than replaced?

On some older vehicles with cable-operated clutches, adjustment can restore correct engagement. On most modern vehicles with hydraulic clutches, slipping indicates worn friction material and the clutch needs to be replaced.

Do you replace the flywheel when replacing the clutch?

We inspect the flywheel when replacing the clutch. If it is scored, has hot spots or is below the minimum thickness, we recommend resurfacing or replacement. Fitting a new clutch to a damaged flywheel will shorten the new clutch's life significantly.

How long does a clutch replacement take?

Most clutch replacements take between 3 and 6 hours depending on the vehicle. Some vehicles with difficult access to the gearbox take longer. We will give you an accurate time estimate when you book.

Can you replace a clutch on a 4WD or SUV?

Yes. We replace clutches on all vehicle types including 4WDs, SUVs, utes and vans. Some 4WD clutch replacements are more involved due to transfer case removal requirements.
