Brake Repairs Brisbane
Don't ignore the warning signs - brakes are your most important safety system
About This Service
Your brakes are the single most important safety system on your car. Worn brake pads, scored rotors or a soft brake pedal are not problems you can put off. Fixacar mechanics diagnose and repair all brake system components across all four Brisbane locations, using quality parts backed by a parts and labour warranty.
Brake wear is gradual, which means many drivers don't notice the decline until something goes wrong. By the time you hear metal-on-metal grinding, your rotors are likely already damaged. Regular brake inspections catch wear early and keep repair costs down. We inspect brakes as part of every logbook service and can check them at any time on request.
Signs your brakes need attention
- Squealing or squeaking when braking
- Grinding or metal-on-metal noise
- Brake pedal feels soft, spongy or goes to the floor
- Car pulls to one side when braking
- Brake warning light on the dashboard
- Vibration or pulsing through the pedal when braking
- Longer stopping distances than usual

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should brake pads be replaced?
Brake pad life varies significantly depending on driving style, vehicle weight and pad type. As a general guide, front pads typically last 40,000 to 60,000 km and rear pads last longer. We check pad thickness at every service.
Do I need to replace rotors when I replace brake pads?
Not always. If your rotors are within the manufacturer's minimum thickness specification and are not scored or warped, they can often be reused. We measure and assess rotors every time we replace pads.
What causes a soft or spongy brake pedal?
A soft pedal is usually caused by air in the brake lines or deteriorated brake fluid. It can also indicate a failing master cylinder or a brake hose that is ballooning under pressure. This needs to be diagnosed and repaired promptly.
How long does a brake repair take?
A standard front or rear brake pad and rotor replacement takes around 1 to 1.5 hours. More complex repairs involving calipers or brake lines take longer. We will give you a time estimate when you book.
Is it safe to drive with the brake warning light on?
It depends on which light is on. A red brake warning light indicates a serious issue and you should not drive the vehicle. An amber ABS light means the ABS system has a fault but your base brakes still work. Either way, have it inspected as soon as possible.
